Hermes takes direct approach in Hong Kong

**DFNI EXCLUSIVE** Hermes' new Hong Kong international airport outlet marks the fashion group's first directly-operated travel-retail venture

Fashion group Hermes has opened its first directly-operated travel-retail outlet. The company opened a temporary store at Hong Kong International airport earlier this month after deciding not to pursue a concessionaire agreement for its operations at the airport.

Hermes said that the temporary outlet would operate until the inauguration of a new 130sq m (1,400sq ft) store in the centre of the airport's luxury boutiques area in December.

A spokesman told TRW that the move represented a great opportunity for Hermes' travel-retail division, adding a new retail activity to its existing wholesale business. He reported that sales in the first two weeks were above expectations.
