Helsinki Airport Duty Free will open a new arrivals store in Helsinki Vantaa's Schengen terminal in May
Airport authority and retailer Helsinki Airport Duty Free is to open an arrivals store in Helsinki Vantaa's Schengen terminal in May. The outlet, which will cover 80sq m (860sq ft), will offer duty-paid confectionery, gifts, fragrances and cosmetics.
Helsinki Airport Duty Free commercial manager Olli Rousi said that the retailer would offer the same prices available in its departures stores in Helsinki's Schengen, non-Schengen and domestic terminals. "We saw the potential in opening a Schengen arrivals store, since we have a good space and plenty of customers," he said. "The customer base will be mostly returning Finns, who make up 70% of traffic."
National carrier Finnair has operated an arrivals store in Helsinki's non-Schengen terminal for several years. Rousi said the outlet had performed "steadily".
Asian passenger traffic at Helsinki has increased considerably in recent years as Finnair develops its network of destinations in Asia/|Pacific. Rousi said that Asian spend in confectionery and beauty was particularly strong.
