Heinemann opens at Vladivostok

8-Jan-2003

Gebr Heinemann has opened its new duty-free store at Vladivostok airport. The operator told TRW it hoped to capitalise on the city's potential as a centre for international trade

Heinemann director CIS, Mongolia and the Baltic Pierre Viarnaud said: "Vladivostok is not a big airport, but this part of Russia has a lot of potential thanks to its proximity to Korea, Japan and China. It can become a hub both for tourism and for commerce."

The Vladivostok opening adds to Heinemann's growing interests in eastern Russia, where Kapo Group opened a store at Zabaikalsk on the Chinese border in cooperation with Heinemann last year. "That operation is progressing well," said Viarnaud. "Once we have found the best logistics system and the most appropriate product mix, we're optimistic that the business will grow rapidly."

In addition, Kapo Group and Heinemann will shortly begin operating at Ekaterinburg airport, Russia's third-busiest hub.
