Heinemann enters Georgian market

The German company creates a partnership with Tbilisi airport and border shop operator

Gebr Heinemann has taken its first steps into the duty-free market in the east European republic of Georgia.

Heinemann has forged an exclusive supply agreement with a local partner, which formerly operated the company Georgian Duty Free in a joint venture with Dufry. The local partner bought out the shares of the company and has appointed Heinemann to help build the business. The company operates stores at Tbilisi airport and on the border.

Gebr Heinemann director for the Baltics, CIS and Russia Pierre Viarnaud told ravenfox.com: "We'll support them in the way we do our other partners, as a supplier but we'll also look at the shop construction and design for them too. Georgia looks to be finally getting back on its feet. There is a lot of construction downtown, many new buildings and a new shopping complex. The economy is finally starting to improve."
