The German operator and local partner Asiarianta Tashkent will shortly open a new airport store in the Uzbek city of Samarkand

Gebr Heinemann and local partner Asiarianta Tashkent are to open a new duty-free store in Samarkand International airport in Uzbekistan. The 40sq m (430sq ft) outlet will offer a range of liquor, wines, fragrances, tobacco and confectionery and is scheduled to open on June 5. A bar will also be added to the airport's commercial facilities.

Gebr Heinemann director CIS, Mongolia and Baltics Pierre Viarnaud said that the Uzbek authorities had made a concerted effort to improve transport facilities in Samarkand and the capital Tashkent, where Heinemann also operates in partnership with Asiarianta. "[Samarkand] airport is not very big—it welcomes less than 100,000 passengers annually—but the city has a lot of history and was a milestone on the old Silk Road," he said.

Asiarianta was initially set up by Aer Rianta International (ARI) with local Uzbek partners, but RavenFox.com understands that the partners retained the name after ARI withdrew from the country.
