Hamila Duty Free has renewed its five-year contract to operate stores at the port of La Goulette in Tunisia from January 2005, according to marketing manager Mariem Ben Cheikh
The 200sq m (2,150sq ft) port shop has produced strong sales this year with year-on-year sales to May 1 up by 15%. A 200sq m depot also provides storage for the shop. CEO Tarek Hamila attributed the increase to the growing number of cruiseships docking in Tunisia instead of Malta—which joined the EU in May—to preserve the duty-free status of their onboard shops.
The company will be applying to renew its five-year contract for its car ferry operations this month. It operates on board five ferries, which mainly run from Marseille to Genoa. Each vessel has two or three shops of about 100sq m (1,076sq ft).
