New business to target the entire African continent
YKH Holding, parent company of Tunisian travel retailer Hamila Duty Free, has formed a new affiliate called Hamila Distribution to cater for brands looking to access markets across the whole of Africa, not just the north of the continent.
Hamila Duty Free purchasing and marketing manager Mariem Ben Cheikh has been promoted to managing director of the new operation, referred to as a Group Purchasing Organisation (GPO). The GPO will “buy, promote and monitor the marketing of brands and products” in African markets as well as Malta, but only within the duty-free channel in the immediate future.
YKH Holding already has seven years’ experience in the distribution of Philip Morris brands in North Africa through Cobweb Distribution. “Now, as a result of requests from other brands and due to the potential we see, we believe it’s time to expand this side of the business,” said Ben Cheikh, adding that she would be targeting companies in the luxury goods, accessories and fashion sectors among others.
Hamila Distribution will also include a subsidiary specialising in organising conferences, seminars and special events in North Africa.
