Hachette and Alpha secure Eurotunnel contracts
Eurotunnel has confirmed that Hachette Distribution Services (HDS) and Alpha Travel Retail have won key retail tenders at the French and UK terminals respectively. The news was first revealed on travelretailworld.com last Friday. It follows a competitive tender following the withdrawal by World Duty Free at the end of the month.
HDS, parent company of Aeroboutique/Duty Free Associates, has secured three retail units at Coquelles, selling beer, wine, spirits, liquor, tobacco and fragrances in the French terminal building. It will also manage the retail operations in the French Club and freight passenger buildings. HDS already has a major retail presence across French airports, railway and motorway stations. Alpha won the fragrance and cosmetics concession in Folkestone, with Eurotunnel still in discussions with a number of specialist operators to take over retail space vacated by World Duty Free. Both the Hachette and Alpha contracts run for five years.
Eurotunnel Shuttle Services managing director Bill Dix said: "Hachette will bring a distinctly French feel to our traditional cross-Channel fare of liquor, tobacco and fragrance products as well a Best of France concept. "The UK terminal is being redeveloped to give our customers a mix of shopping opportunities and retaining a variety of food outlets."
