Autogrill-owned retail operator HMSHost has been awarded a five-year contract by San Francisco International airport (SFO). The company, which has held retail concessions at the airport for the last 50 years, presented a portfolio of new concepts combining international local brands for four spaces at terminal three, used exclusively by United Airlines: the first MNG by Mango (womens fashion) in a US airport; Golden Gate News Connection (news and convenience); Starbucks Coffee; and two SFO News Express locations. The new stores are due to open in January 2008.
According to a company statement, HMSHost is investing $1.61m as part of its capital improvement budget for construction in T3. MNG and Golden Gate News Connection will be located in the departures area, one SFO News Express will be placed at the ticketing level and the remaining shops will be adjacent to each other on the arrivals level.
SFO director John L Martin said: As SFO and HMSHost have evolved during the last 50 years, so has our relationship. We are pleased that we continue to work together with HMSHost to create the best airport experience possible for Bay Area travellers."
HMSHost senior vice-president business development Patrick Banducci said: We are committed to helping SFO exceed its objectives for its concession program. Our current retail shops and restaurants are driving some of the highest revenue per square foot at SFO today. These new concessions in T3 will complement and enhance SFO's program while returning almost $11 million in rent to the airport."
