Hong Kong International airport (HKIA) has announced the winners of a contested tender to operate at terminal one’s East Hall luxury brand boutique boulevard. Over 100 companies registered their interest in the spaces, and among the 37 winners are nine newcomers to HKIA: Chaumet, David Yurman, Giorgio Armani, Jimmy Choo, La Perla, Loro Piana, Pal Zileri, Valentino and Versace.
The luxury boulevard covers 3,360sq m (36,166sq ft) in T1’s departure hall level six and the 37 stores vary in size between 31sq m (362sq ft) and 248sq m (2,669sq ft). The stand-alone boutiques will open in phases throughout 2009.
Airport Authority Hong Kong general manager retail and advertising Eva Tsang said: “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response and quality of the tender proposals. The positive responses reflect our business partners’ strong confidence on the long term business potential of HKIA despite the current economic uncertainty. In light of a long waiting list of luxury brand operators for space on the boulevard, as well as ongoing requests from existing luxury brands for shop expansion, we will continue to explore ways to satisfy the business expansion needs of our customers and to deliver a world class shopping experience to our passengers.”
