The new building is to house Asia's largest "4D" cinema when it opens next June
Hong Kong International airport (HKIA)'s has appointed Multiplex Cinema and SimEx-Iwerks to install Hong Kong's first ever "4D" cinema at the airport's new SkyPlaza building, due to open in June 2006. The airport authority said that viewers in the 330-seat auditorium would be able to "wade through drifting snow and breathe pleasant outdoor fragrances".HKIA commercial director Hans Bakker said that the cinema could also be used to complement the new Hong Kong Expo centre, which will open on the airport's estate next year, during peak periods.
The airport authority said the cinema is one of several Hong Kong firsts at the SkyPlaza, including "an innovative optical retail concept store, a French infants products manufacturer well known for soft toys and baby items, a fixed-price US fashion accessory concept and a new jewellery brand from Austria."
