The TopSeries system will coordinate purchases from the carrier’ website, GuestLogix Mobile Virtual store and various entertainment services

Canadian onboard retail technology provider GuestLogix has signed an agreement with passenger entertainment systems provider Thales to create an integrated platform for both retail and entertainment. The system will coordinate pre-flight purchases on the carriers’ websites, the GuestLogix Mobile Virtual Store and onboard movies and video games through the TopSeries system.

The solution uses the GuestLogix Concierge technology, which generates secure identification codes to reduce the risk of fraud and eliminate the need to incorporate point-of-sale (POS) application with the seat-back video systems. Travellers can pre-pay for onboard entertainment services via the airline’s website and receive a code which they input using the virtual keypad on the seat-back touch screen to play the entertainment they choose. GuestLogix Concierge integrates with the GuestLogix Mobile Virtual Store onboard wireless POS, which can manage various elements including refunds.

GuestLogix executive vice-president onboard retail development Brett Proud said: “Entertainment services, payment technologies, online shopping and internet access are converging to create new ways to enhance onboard passenger experience. Airlines can benefit from the Thales/GuestLogix combination as they can pre-sell more services in the booking path on websites, integrate entertainment services with other onboard merchandising offers, and reduce operating costs such as credit card processing fees.”

Thales vice-president and general manager inflight entertainment business Alan Pellegrini added: “GuestLogix has an onboard retail solution that is an excellent component to the TopSeries system. We anticipate that airlines will soon realise they can provide new services that their passengers will appreciate. A launch airline for this new feature has been identified, but the company name cannot be disclosed at this time.”
