Guayaquil management tender stalls as AA2000 bid declared void

27-Nov-2003

Errors in a bid mounted by an Argentinian consortium -including Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 - have forced a retender of Guayaquil airport's management contract

Guayaquil International Airport Authority is to retender the contract to manage and operate Ecuador's second airport after one of the bids received in this month's process failed to meet technical requirements. The second attempt will be held next month, with technical bids to be presented on December 12 and financial proposals due for discussion on December 30.

The failed bid was submitted by Corporacion America, an Argentinian consortium including airport authority Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. According to Business News Americas, the bid was eliminated due to an error in the guarantees the consortium offered. Two other bids, from multinational consortia, were also submitted.

A spokesman from the authority said that rules for the tender?which offers a 15-year management contract and demands between $70m-90m investment in a new passenger terminal, cargo terminal and control tower?would be modified slightly before the retender.
