The showcase Puerto Iguazu Free Zone managed by London Supply had its grand opening last Friday March 15, with the Argentinean President and the Governor of the State of Misiones in attendance as well as governmental and local authorities.

The main feature of the 46-hectare site is the Duty Free Shopping Mall (pictured) over 3,000 sq m (34,900sq ft). The centre with the adjacent car park, play area and artificial lake was designed by the same architect who created Neutral's award-winning shop in Punta del Este airport in 1998.

The site also houses a Warehousing Free Zone, a special customs territory for transhipment of goods and services, exempted from the payment of import and export taxes until they reach their final destination.

The duty-free shop is divided into clear product areas: fragrances, cosmetics and a beauty area for personalised advice; liquor, tobacco and confectionery; jewellery; fashion and accessories and a toy area with a play corner.

Technology stores for watches, electronics and sports have an adjacent home cinema testing room. All stores are located around a central coffee shop area where live concerts, fashion shows and promotions will be held.

The first eight hectares that have been developed involved the investment of over Argentinean Ps10m ($5.2m) generating 120 jobs said London Supply. The duty-free zone is located beside the route that connects Foz de Iguazu (Brazil) with Puerto Iguazu (Argentina).
