Gerzon Duty Free and World of Delights have jointly acquired Mimex Airport Retailers’ operations at Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Gerzon will take over Mimex’s leathergoods and luggage outlets from September 1, including a recently-opened 95sq m (1,022sq ft) Tumi stand-alone shop [DFNI June 2008], while World of Delights will operate the remaining stores in other categories. According to the company, the takeover will double the number of Gerzon’s points of sale.
Gerzon managing director Philip Gerzon said: “First and foremost, we will strive to achieve our current goals of structural growth and the development of sustainable relationships. [Our] core values remain unchanged and Gerzon represents reliability, quality, knowledge, service and respect. This acquisition presents the opportunity for us to grow with the suppliers and to build on existing relationships.”
Following the acquisition, Gerzon will move to a larger head office and invest in analysing and improving its current brand and fashion mix at Schiphol. The plans include the renovation of its fashion store at terminal two early next year, in line with the recent refurbishment of the outlets at T1 and T3. The takeover also gives Gerzon the right to open several stand-alone stores, the company added, which it plans to do in early 2009.
