Generation to launch Travel Retail Audit Quarterly

12-Jun-2002

Swedish research group Generation has announced it is to extend the pilot research programme TRAQ it has begun for the confectionery category in the UK and Ireland

Generation began detailed quarterly collection of travel-retail sales data last year with the support of World Duty Free, Alpha, The Nuance Group and Aer Rianta International. The reports offer full confidentiality for participants using operator (not supplier) data and Generation has begun a plan to move up to global coverage.

Speaking exclusively to TRW, Generation vice president business development Jan Nygren said: "We firmly believe this is the future. The next phase is to develop confectionery and cigarettes covering European airports and ferries. The end product will be to cover all categories."

Generation said it has no firm schedule for the next phases but established relations with operators are in place. "Duty-free is a mature market and it is necessary to fight more to gain market share; the days of 13% annual growth are over. In the current market information is everything," added Nygren.
