Unforeseen circumstances have indefinitely delayed Grantley Adams International airport's quest for new retail tenants
The tender for retail at Barbados Grantley Adams International airport has been delayed due to an "unforeseen issue" that must be resolved before the process can continue, RavenFox.com has learned. A source at the airport, which issued a request for proposals in January and recieved submissions by May 3, declined to comment further and said it did not know how long the delay would be.The airport, which is seeking tenants for 16 new retail outlets, was due to announce the results of the tender by the end of May and originally said that winning parties would be able to occupy their stores no more than four months after bidding closed. Aer Rianta International has confirmed that it has submitted a proposal to run retail and Duty Free Caribbean—the joint-venture between Dufry Group and local travel-retailer Cave Shepherd—is also understood to have placed a bid.
"There has been an unforeseen issue delaying the selection process," said the airport source, "and we cannot move forward until the matter has been resolved. Unfortunately we have no way of knowing how long it will take at this time."
