Fraport has won the concession to renovate airports at the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts of Bourgas and Varna

The Bulgarian government has awarded Fraport the concession to modernise, expand and operate Bourgas and Varna airports. It is estimated that €403m ($506m) will be invested in new terminal facilities at the Black Sea resorts.

The concession agreement is expected to be completed in the next few months and will run for more than 35 years, with an option for extension. Fraport will develop the new terminals as a lead partner in the consortium with BM Star of Bulgaria.

Bourgas and Varna airports each welcomed about 1.6m passengers in 2005, most of whom were from Germany, UK and Scandinavia.
