The redistribution of traffic at Turkey's Antalya airport is yet to benefit the German airport operator, but Fraport posts record overall passenger figures for April

Traffic at airport group Fraport's flagship location Frankfurt airport rose by 3.1% to 4.4m passengers in April. This year's late Easter holiday helped the airport to achieve record passenger numbers during the month.

European traffic helped to drive growth at Frankfurt, increasing by 7.5% in April compared to the same period last year. Within Europe, traffic to and from Spain showed the strongest growth, at 20.1% compared with the same month last year. Intercontinental growth at Frankfurt continued to be driven by Asian traffic, which grew by 6% overall, while routes to the Middle East posted a traffic increase of 13%.

At the group's other German airports, Frankfurt-Hahn airport enjoyed strong growth of 26.3% to 311,244 passengers. Hanover welcomed 7% more passengers than last April, while Säarbrucken continued its decline, recording a fall of 14.1% to 28,761 passengers.

Among Fraport's international locations, Lima airport once again showed steady passenger growth, this time by 9.8%. Traffic at the group's Turkish location Antalya airport—where Fraport runs terminal one—benefited from the redistribution of traffic across both terminals at the end of April, but has not yet entered positive growth. This April the airport recorded 26% fewer passengers than last year, which Fraport said compared well to previous months, when traffic had fallen by up to 90.2%.
