Frankfurt's strong passenger traffic bolsters Fraport

Airport operator reports a 5.6% increase in Frankfurt's July traffic and a 7.5% increase in first half group revenue

Frankfurt airport recorded passenger traffic of almost 4.8m in July, a rise of 5.6% from July last year, while airport operator Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (Fraport) reported revenue of Eu943.1m ($1.18bn) for the first half of 2004, a 7.5% increase from the same period last year. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation) increased by 11.8% to reach Eu237m ($296.3m).

Fraport reported total group traffic of 7.9m passengers in July, a rise of 10.5% from July 2003. Antalya airport in Turkey showed the highest year on year rise of 26.3% to reach 1.8m, while Lima airport in Peru grew by 11.8% to reach 477,833. Of the group's smaller German airports, the low-cost carrier boom helped Frankfurt-Hahn register 262,583 passengers, a rise of 16.8%, while Hanover was up by 6.5% to reach 572,983 and Saarbrücken was 0.3% down with 50,155.

Group passenger traffic of 34.9m during the first half of 2004 was 13% higher than last year, with flagship airport Frankfurt recording 24.3m, 8.2% more than the first half of 2003. Increased tourist flights to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey generated a total of 4.4m passengers at Antalya Airport, a dramatic rise of 53.2% from last year, while Frankfurt-Hahn reported first half growth of 20.8%.
