Continental Europe's biggest airport confirms that it handled over 50m passengers in 2004
Frankfurt
airport closed the year with a record-breaking 51.1m passengers, up by 5.7% on 2003.
The airport's performance was boosted by growth in intercontinental traffic, particularly connections to
North America, the
Middle East
and east Asia. In the Asian market, destinations in
India
and
China
experienced the strongest growth.
The five other airports in the Fraport AG group also reported strong passenger growth in 2004. In
Germany, traffic at Frankfurt-Hahn airport rose by 13.6% to 2.8m passengers. Outside
Germany,
Antalya
airport in
Turkey
achieved the group's biggest increase, rising by 27.4% to 12.4m passengers.
Airport authority Fraport called the latest figures ?a milestone? in the airport's history. Earlier this month the group said it expected 60m passengers a year at
Frankfurt
by 2010.
