Frankfurt benefits from passenger boost

Frankfurt airport reports passenger numbers approaching 2002 levels.

Frankfurt airport reported a rise in passenger figures for October, with nearly 4.6m passengers passing through; a record figure for the month. Airport operator Fraport said that the figure was a 2.4% increase on October 2002.

Fraport is optimistic that the upward trend will continue, and expects total passenger numbers for the year to be a maximum of 1% down on 2002 figures. Year-to-date numbers show the airport has handled just over 41m passengers, a 0.9% decline from the same period last year.

In a statement the company said that traffic to the Middle East, Africa and North America showed growth, and passenger numbers to Asian destinations, particularly China, also recovered well. It added: ?Fraport expects a noticeable recovery in demand during the coming months and a continuing climb in passenger figures.?
