Four bidders are to contest the duty-paid tender at Tenerife South airport

Swiss retailer Dufry Group, Spanish catering and gift shop operator Areas, UK-based Alpha Airports Group and incumbent concessionaire Aldeasa are to contest the duty-paid retail concession at Reina Sofia International airport on the island of Tenerife in the Canaries.

Sources close to airport authority AENA confirmed to RavenFox.com that four bids were received when the tender closed last week.

Dufry was expected to contest the tender following its failure to take control of Aldeasa last month. Areas already operates gift shops and catering outlets at a number of AENA airports.

Alpha Retail managing director David King confirmed his company's involvement to RavenFox.com and cited the high level of UK traffic in Tenerife as a reason for Alpha's interest.

The bids will be opened in Tenerife on May 13.
