FlightStore signs first US deal with Continental
UK-based FlightStore, provider of seatback intranet services for airlines, has struck a deal with Continental Airlines that allows passengers to browse, book and buy goods and services through their seatback systems
It will be rolled out across the Continental fleet of 44 Boeing 767 and 777 aircraft. In addition, the service will be made available throughout each aircraft, which FlightStore said would provide the world's biggest nose-to-tail interactive capability of its kind.
FlightStore will negotiate with the airline's existing partners and new brands chiefly from the US to develop interactive capabilities, information banks and interactive sites for launch in the second quarter of 2003. Existing partners will be given the option to adopt the system to reach passengers flying on any of the airline's international routes. It will also mark the opening of a US office for FlightStore.
FlightStore managing director Chris Brady said: "It confirms our belief that most airlines will adopt FlightStore technology, and demonstrates the viability and significance of the product for airlines who want to generate revenue from existing technology."
Continental's manager of onboard product marketing and research Kent Craver added: "We have been looking for a solution which would maximise our existing inflight entertainment technology while also being able to minimise costs. The missing link in the scenario was a partner that could line up brands with passengers and provide stimulating content for them at the same time. We're delighted to become FlightStore's first US airline partner."
