The retailer is to open two new stores at Burundi's main airport

Flemingo International has signed a ten-year contract to run two duty-free outlets at Bujumbura International airport in the African state of Burundi. The retailer now runs 13 stores in four African countries.

The outlets, each spanning 40sq m (430sq ft), will offer a full range of duty-free goods including liquor, tobacco, fragrances and cosmetics.  Flemingo joint managing director Mahendra Thakar told RavenFox.com that the retailer would begin operating this summer.

"The potential in the airport is very good; it's a new location and that is always exciting," he said. "There is a lot of traffic from UN peacekeepers in Burundi and that is a promising market."

Flemingo will also open four outlets spanning 200sq m (2,150sq ft) in Malawi's Lilongwe International airport at the beginning of June.

The Dubai-based retailer also runs airport duty-free stores in Kenya and Tanzania, along with severaloutlets in India.
