China Duty Free Group, in association with joint-venture company China Power Duty Free Group, has announced the first-ever China Travel-Retail Summit, to be held in Beijing on May 16-17.

The event, to be themed "A Golden Future", will focus on the booming growth and enormous potential of the Chinese tourism and travel-retail sectors. China is considered to be the industry's most exciting market of the future.

The Summit is expected to attract many of China's most senior government and industry figures. Top international travel-retail executives are also being invited. Retail executives from China Duty Free Group's 150-store network will also be in attendance.

The Summit will be held in one of Beijing's most prestigious locations (venue to be announced shortly), followed by a Gala dinner and lavish entertainment at the world-famous Great Wall of China. International delegates will then be able to travel on to the Tax Free Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore.

The event will be chaired by Martin Moodie, the publisher and managing director of Duty-Free News International.

China Duty Free Group chairman Gai Zhixin said: "The eyes of the world are on China as the country experiences remarkable growth and dynamism in all sectors of its industry and economic development. Nowhere is the future brighter than in travel, tourism and travel retailing. The World Tourism Organization estimates that China will be the world's biggest tourist destination by 2020, so it is the right time to recognise China's vital role in the travel-retail industry of the 21st century. The Summit underlines the great optimism that all of China feels about the future."

"We invite the travel-retail world to come and see the Chinese Dragon roar!" added China Power partner company King Power Group managing director Antares Cheng. "With China's accession to the World Trade Organization, the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and many other exciting events planned, it is only appropriate that the travel-retail industry also comes to China for an event of such importance as the Summit. We look forward to seeing all our international friends in Beijing in May and promise you a cultural and commercial experience that no-one will ever forget."
