First airport PizzaExpress lands at Heathrow
BAA has announced the arrival of the first ever PizzaExpress airport restaurant at London Heathrow's terminal two. The 4,256sq ft (396sq m) outlet, sited before security control, has been equipped to meet the demands of the 8.5m passengers travelling through the terminal each year.
A new menu, customised to travellers' varying body clocks, also reflects the differing needs of airport customers, including fast snacks for arrivals passengers and more leisurely farewell meals. The PizzaExpress airport menu includes Italian style sandwiches, breakfast pizza, cereal, croissants and pastries, as well traditional pizza favourites.
BAA's retail director UK airports,Colin Hargrave, said: "We are delighted to welcome the first airport PizzaExpress to Heathrow airport.
"The majority of terminal 2 passengers are flying to mainland European destinations. Research indicated that a world renowned restaurant with a Mediterranean menu and atmosphere would appeal to UK passengers starting their holiday, and those passengers returning home," he said.
PizzaExpress has already started work on its second airport restaurant at Gatwick South terminal which is due to open for business by Christmas.
