FDFA to monitor Canadian allowance proposal
The Canadian border duty-free association is to work with its contacts in government to encourage the adoption of a proposed increase in cross-border duty-free allowances
Canadian border retail association Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA) has pledged to work with its contacts in government and with tourism authorities to support this week's Senate Committee proposal to increase cross-border duty-free allowances to US$2,000 per trip (RavenFox.com June 15). The proposal was part of a review of border security in which the committee suggested raising the current allowance of US$750 to allow officers to "better direct their attention to border security rather than revenue collection".
FDFA has encouraged its members to contact their local members of parliament to support the recommendation, but warned that approval was likely to be a lengthy process.
