Former president Bart de Boer will be replaced by Liverpool John Lennon airport CEO Neil Pakey until the end of 2008

The Forum of Regional European Airports (FARE) has elected a new president to replace Bart de Boer, who stepped down following his departure as CEO of Eindhoven airport. Liverpool John Lennon airport CEO Neil Pakey has been named interim president until the end of 2008.

Pakey said: “I find it absolutely vital that FARE continues to serve as the main representative body of European regional airports. It has been proven numerous times that an independent representation for regional airports is crucial to effectively safeguarding their interests. Developments in the European regulatory environment continue to pose new challenges for the regional aviation sector, which we must be ready to react promptly to.

“Regional airports are highly valued by European passengers for the quality of services that they offer, including low prices, lack of congestion and direct connections with numerous destinations in Europe,” he added. “It is important that regional airports continue to develop and deliver even better services to European passengers.”

FARE is currently lobbying to maintain duty-free sales at regional airports for passengers transferring at a hub airport within the EU following a proposal by the European Commission to change the definition of third country passengers, as previously reported by DFNIonline.
