Extra security measures put in place

In light of the current uncertain political climate, TFWA has announced the following additional security measures being put in place for the TFWA World Exhibition 2001.

* As part of the French National Security Plan VIGIPIRATE an extra police presence will be in place both immediately around the Palais and on the Croisette, day and night.

* Anyone registering or collecting their badge onsite will need an ID card with photograph (or passport) to confirm his or her identification.

* Absolutely no one will be admitted into the exhibition or conference area of the Palais without a valid badge. Badge photos will be carefully checked, which may slow the entry process.

* All bags will be searched at the entrance to the Palais and at the left luggage area, as well as at the entrance to TFWA's evening hospitality facility: The Club.

* All bags will be searched on entry to the official Welcoming Cocktail and Gala. For both these events, participants will need their badge to gain access, as well as their official invitation. Once inside, the badges do not need to be worn.

* Security staff will be equipped with metal detectors at each of the Palais entrances and will undertake a light body search (using appropriate staff) where necessary.

* Security measures will also be in place at the Croisette hotels such as the Carlton, Majestic, Martinez and Noga Hilton. Visitors (for example those not staying at these hotels) will be asked for justification in order to gain access.

"We are sure everyone will appreciate that these extra security measures have been put in place for the safety of all," said TFWA ceo Andrew Ford. "The measures may result in some delays but this is a small price to pay for peace of mind. We do hope everyone will be patient and allow extra time when planning meetings for entry into the Palais and the main hotels."
