Expansion progresses as revenues rise at Keflavik

Profits for Keflavik airport authority Leifur Eiríksson Air Terminal rose 9.2% in 2006
Revenues for Keflavik International airport commercial and retail operator Leifur Eiríksson Air Terminal (LEAT) increased by 9.2% to IKr6.78bn ($102m). Operating profits were IKr22m ($332.01m) after tax, despite an investment of IKr4bn ($60m) in the terminal building which doubled the size of the departures area to accommodate increasing passenger numbers.
LEAT subsidiary Duty Free Store has recently opened a new shop for departing passengers, covering 1,150sq m (12,375sq ft) on level 2. The retailer offers all the main categories, as well as electrical and multimedia products.
Duty Free Store managing director Hlynur Sigurdsson said: The aim was to offer passengers even better service, in a spacious, well-lit store, where they can take their time choosing their purchases and enjoy a relaxing experience before departure. Our customers initial reactions indicate that we have succeeded.
In 2006 passenger numbers rose by 11% to 2m with a further 6% rise forecast in 2007.
