European traffic up by 6.8% in May

Passenger traffic across Europe's airports showed strong growth during May, according to figures released by ACI Europe

Figures released by ACI Europe show that passenger traffic at European airports grew by 6.8% during May. Small airports welcoming less than 5m passengers once again registered the fastest growth, with an average increase of 11.6% compared to the same period last year. The best three performing airports in this category were Moscow Vnukovo, which welcomed 65.6% more passengers than in the May 2005; Liege, which grew by 57.3%; and Riga, which enjoyed growth of 33.1%.
 
Of airports with annual traffic of 25m or more, Barcelona recorded the highest growth, of 10.7%. Traffic at Madrid increased by 8.6%, while Munich enjoyed growth of 8.5%.
 
Among second-tier airports with traffic of between 10m and 25m, Hamburg grew by 17.5%, Dublin by 16.5% and Oslo by 14.2%.
 
Airports with annual traffic between 5m and 10m also enjoyed strong growth. At Warsaw traffic grew by 14.3%, Marseille enjoyed an increase of 8.5% and Venice welcomed growth of 8.5%.
