A strong start to 2005 as Europe's airports report further growth

The latest traffic figures from ACI Europe reveal further growth across the region's airports, with medium-sized regional airports again showing the greatest gains, attracting 14.1% more passengers than in January 2004. Girona and Riga continue to lead the small airports sector, posting rises of 115.3% and 100.2% respectively. Girona welcomed 190,400 people in January, and Riga 101,200.
 
Among bigger airports, London Gatwick performed best in January. Gatwick has improved on its success in 2004 with a traffic increase of 10.8%, welcoming 2.1m passengers.

Airports in eastern Europe continue to flourish. Budapest, Warsaw and Prague turned in strong results, averaging a 30.1% rise in passengers compared to January 2004.
