European traffic up 7.5% in 2004

The ACI Europe Traffic Report reveals 2004 was a year of further recovery for European traffic
European passenger numbers increased by an average of 7.5% in 2004, with the smallest airports again showing the greatest growth. Those airports welcoming less than 5 million passengers a year experienced an average rise of 11.1% on December 2003. Liege doubled its passenger traffic, Riga saw a 98% increase and Girona a 93.6% rise in December 2004 compared to December 2003.
Major airports, categorised as those welcoming more than 25 million passengers per year, reported an average increase of 3.2%, with London Gatwick (+7.9%), Madrid Barajas (+5.1%) and Amsterdam (+3.9%) performing best in their category.
Other major gains were made by Prague, which reported a 26.9% rise, Cologne/Bonn (+15.4%), and Palma de Mallorca (+15%).
The ACI Europe Traffic Report - December 2004, was published today and contains figures for 88 of Europe's airports.
