European traffic grows by 5.1%

Passenger traffic across Europe's airports grew steadily during the first quarter of 2006, according to figures released by ACI Europe
Figures released by ACI Europe show that passenger traffic at European airports grew by 5.1% during the first quarter of 2006. Small airports welcoming less than 5m passengers registered the fastest growth, with an average increase of 8.2% compared to the same period last year. The best three performing airports in this category were Bournemouth, which welcomed 56.8% more passengers than in the fast quarter of 2005; Liege, which grew by 42%; and Riga, which enjoyed growth of 39%.
Of airports with annual traffic of 25m or more, Munich recorded the highest growth, of 8.1%. Traffic at Barcelona increased by 7.8%, while Amsterdam enjoyed growth of 3.6%.
Among second-tier airports with traffic of between 10m and 25m, Oslo grew by 18.7%, Hamburg by 17.6% and Moscow Domodedovo by 16.2%.
Airports with annual traffic between 5m and 10m also enjoyed strong growth. At Warsaw traffic grew by 17.6%, Stuttgart enjoyed an increase of 14.5% and Milan Linate welcomed growth of 9.8%.
