European passenger traffic rises 4.9% in August

Passenger traffic at Europe's airports increased 4.9% in August 2004 compared with August 2003, Airports Council International (ACI) revealed through its regular traffic update today.

The biggest increases came among airports that welcome under 5m passengers a year, with an average increase of 7.9% in the month compared to August 2003.

Of the biggest regional airports, Rome Fiumicino achieved traffic growth of 7.1%, Madrid Barajas increased 6.2% and Amsterdam Schiphol 5.1%.

Munich recorded growth of 14.4% in the month, Vienna 14%, Moscow Domodedovo 25.2% and Prague 22.7%.

Of the smallest airports, big increases came at Riga (56.3%) and Vilnius (44%).
