European airport passenger traffic up 8.3% in July

Smaller airports have continued to show the largest increases, with eastern European destinations particularly prominent

Overall passenger traffic at European airports increased by 8.3% year-on-year in July 2004, according to ACI Europe.
 
Smaller airports, welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year, have continued to show the largest percentage increase. Girona (Spain) was up by 69.9% from last year, while Riga (Latvia) was up by 55% and Vilnius (Lithuania) by 49.4%.
 
As expected, the leading European airports of Heathrow, Paris CDG and Frankfurt topped the monthly table, with 6.5m, 4.9m and 4.8 million passengers respectively.
 
Eastern European destinations continued to grow traffic, with Moscow Dromodevo up by 31.2%, Prague up by 27.4% and Budapest up by 26.2%.
 
Other airports that showed year-on-year increases of more than 10% included Palma de Mallorca (10.2%), Munich (14.5%), Vienna (17.7%) and Lisbon (12.6%).

ACI Europe's monthly Airport Traffic Report includes a broad range of 78 small, medium and large airports.
