European airport passenger traffic up 7.5% in June
Passenger traffic at European airports increased by 7.5% in June 2004 compared to June last year, according to figures from Airports Council International (ACI) Europe.
ACI Europe's monthly Airport Traffic Report showed the leading European airports of Heathrow, Paris CDG and Frankfurt continuing to dominate in June. Heathrow topped the table with 5.95m passengers during the month, up 6.9% from last year, while Charles de Gaulle saw a 7.7% increase to reach 4.51m and Frankfurt was up 5.1% to 4.47m.
Other large airports that showed year on year increases of over 10% included Madrid, Munich, London Stansted, Paris Orly, Stockholm-Arlanda, Vienna and Oslo.
The largest traffic increases were at smaller airports processing less than 5 million passengers per year, which put on an average 10% increase from 2003. The most dramatic were at Girona airport in Spain (73%), Porto in Portugal (49.5%) and Riga in Latvia (48.5%).
Eastern European airports also performed particularly well, with notable improvements at Moscow-Domodedovo (36.4%), Prague (28.9%), Budapest (30.9%) and Vilnius (38.1%)
