Strong tourist arrivals at Kuala Lumpur International airport have driven the Malaysian operator's sales over 2004
Malaysian duty-free retailer Eraman is expecting to announce sales in excess of M$195m ($51.3m0 for 2004, up from M$179.3 ($47.2m) the previous year. The group attributed the growth to strong tourist arrivals and an increase in the amount visitors spend at Malaysian airports.
Eraman, a subsidiary of airport authority Malaysia Airport Holdings (MAHB), told The Business Times that the tobacco, fragrances and confectionery categories had performed strongest, followed by fashion.
Since it was established in 1993, Eraman has operated as a combination of tenant, consultant and master concessionaire at four of the country's major international airports in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Its business extends to both duty-free and duty-paid retail, as well as overseeing catering at the country's biggest sporting event?the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix at Sepang circuit, located next to Kuala Lumpur International airport and owned by MAHB.
