The onboard concessionaire sees opportunity in the booming Asian low-cost air travel market
Onboard concessionaire King Power Traveller is hoping to take advantage of drastic growth in Asia's low-cost aviation market to gain new contracts. The company, which already operates concessions onboard Thai Airways and Air Macau, revealed to DFNI Asia that it was in discussions with several small-to-medium sized airlines in the region with regard to gaining new business. With the growth of established Asia low-cost carriers such as Tiger Airways and Air Asia over the past two years, several new airlines are hoping to capitalise on the trend. King Power Traveller managing director Rakhita Jayawardena pointed to these carriers a potential growth area for the business.
"The low-cost carrier model is based on a simple formula of keeping overheads and costs to a minimum," he said, "and the best way to do that is to outsource. We have been in discussions with several airlines in recent months and we are confident that there are opportunities in this part of the market."
Jayawardena added that growth at King Power Traveller, and in airline distribution business Centaur, had been achieving growth "above the industry average" over the past year.
