The UK airport is testing an automated check-in system that could boost dwell-time in its duty-free stores
A new check-in concept being trialled at UK's Nottingham airport promises to give passengers more time to spend in duty-free stores. The touch-screen fast check-in machines enable passengers to swipe their credit card or the barcode on their passport to obtain their boarding pass and load their own baggage onto the conveyer belt.
The airport told the Leicester Mercury that check-in would be four times faster than usual enabling passengers to go through to the shopping area much earlier and allowing the airport to house extra flights and passengers without expanding the terminal area. The scheme is being run in association with low-cost airline bmi baby and, if successful, will be rolled out across Manchester Airport Group's other airports.
