Documents relating to the Colombian airport's management contract will be released in mid-December, according to the civil aviation authority

Colombian civil aviation authority Aerocivil has confirmed that tender documents for the management and renovation of El Dorado International airport in Bogotá will be available from 14 December. Interested parties will have until mid-April 2006 to place their bids and the winner should be announced in June.

After an extended discussion period following the publication of draft tender documents in July, the concession period has been extended from 15 to 17 years. The Colombian government also indicated that the tender winner will have to invest $600m, up from $450m, to renovate the terminal buildings and improve cargo facilities at the airfield.

Last year over 8m passengers used El Dorado and the new concession winner will be expected to build facilities to look after more than 16m passengers.

Sources close to the Colombian ministry suggest that companies interested in managing the airport include AENA from Spain, ASUR from Mexico, Andrade Gutierrez from Brazil, Houston Airport System from USA, Corporacion America/Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and local companies Odinsa, ConConcreto and Hermanos Solarte.
