The Israeli flag carrier reported a 20% increase in onboard sales from January to November
Onboard sales at Israeli flag carrier El Al have increased by 20% from January to November this year compared to the same period last year. The results are attributed to an increase in passengers and a new drive to match products to the passenger profile.
Inflight service manager administration and sales Amit Gilad told RavenFox.com that the economic climate was a major factor. "We've been seeing an improvement in the economic status in Israel and this has helped our sales. Also the economy in other countries where we fly to has improved," he said.
This year the best-selling categories are fragrances, cosmetics, tobacco and liquor, with successful jewellery sales achieved thanks to listings aimed at fashionable Israeli women.
"We are carrying out a dynamic search to find new suppliers and to update the products and brands that we stock," said Gilad. "We strive to source and supply suitable products to our unique passenger group."
The airline is reviewing its inflight duty-free brochure and is considering a revamp to make it more user friendly and attractive. "We need to consider product variety, customer needs, mode and preference," explained Gilad.
Meanwhile Gilad said that the airline's privatisation brought about "no drastic changes to the inflight sales operations."
