Pending approval from the Egyptian authorities, the two retailers have been chosen to run the duty-free businesses at the airport's new and existing terminals respectively
Egyptair Tax Free Shops and Dufry Group have won the tenders for duty-free retail at Sharm el Sheikh airport in Egypt. Airport authority Egyptian Airports Co (EAC) confirmed to RavenFox.com that Egyptair, advised by consultant Aer Rianta International-Middle East, has won the contract to operate in the airport's new terminal, while the duty-free business in the existing facility will be taken over by Dufry Group. EAC said that equal weighting had been given to the financial and technical aspects of the bid.
Other bidders for the business were Phoenicia Trading, Cairo Airport Duty Free (a subsidiary of the Chalhoub Group), Aldeasa and a partnership between International Duty Free Agencies and Gebr Heinemann.
The concession at Sharm el Sheikh's existing terminal covers an outlet spanning 810sq m (8,715sq ft) in departures and a 70sq m (753sq ft) space in arrivals. The new terminal will contain a similar space for arrivals duty-free plus a 780sq m (8,392sq ft) store in departures.
RavenFox.com understands that Egyptair and Dufry did not table the highest minimum annual guarantees for business in the terminals, but did offer the highest percentage of annual sales, at 34.1% and 31% respectively. Phoenicia Trading offered the highest minimum guarantees for the business in both terminals.
