A clampdown on the issue of downtown licences in Egypt has prohibited Cairo Airport Company (CAC) from opening duty-free arrivals shops at the new AirMall at Cairo International airport
New laws introduced by the Ministry of Finance in Egypt, which have stopped the issue of downtown duty-free licences, have prohibited the opening of two arrivals duty-free outlets at the AirMall at Cairo International airport.
CAC chief commercial officer Jean-Pierre Tabet confirmed to Ravenfox.com: Initially we were planning to have two arrivals duty-free outlets, but the Ministry of Finance changed the laws practically overnight and is not issuing licenses for such 'downtown' duty-free outlets anymore. In the meantime the [shopping] mall has been fully rented.
The new shopping centre has been constructed near terminal ones international arrival hall three. It serves passengers, airport visitors and the general public within the Heliopolis & Nasr City vicinity and it will be linked to the new T3.
