23-Nov-2004

The low-cost carrier reports a £21m ($38.9m) profit despite a 2% dip in revenue per passenger

UK low-cost airline EasyJet has reported profit of £21m ($38.9m) for the year ended September 2004. Total revenue per passenger (including ticketing) has fallen 2% and now stands at £44.82 ($82.92) per passenger, reflecting increased competition, the airline said. Meanwhile, passenger numbers have risen by 20% to 23.3m.

CEO Ray Webster said: "These are creditable results in challenging market conditions which have affected all airlines. Both financially and operationally we are stronger than we have ever been before...There are good opportunities for us in 2005. We expect to grow our sales through further enhancing our network and growing ancillary revenues...However, we expect the remaining months of winter to be challenging and that competition will be intense."
