The European Travel Retail Council is to replace its traditional tobacco workshop with a session on aviation security at the TFWA World Exhibition next month
The European Travel Retail Council (ETRC) will provide an update on the latest aviation security developments at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes next month. The workshop, to be held on Wednesday October 25, replaces the scheduled tobacco workshop and will focus on negotiations to establish a new security regime at European airports after the foiled UK terror plot of August 10.
ETRC president Frank O'Connell and a panel of industry executives will present the latest situation and implications for travel-retail, as well as an update of ETRC's negotiations to secure a favourable position for airport retail amid bans on passengers carrying liquids in hand baggage on flights from the UK and flights to the US.
The aviation security threat to duty-free could spread beyond Europe, said ETRC. "The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) is also expected to confirm before long new recommendations for aviation security across the globe, so this workshop will be important to all delegates attending the exhibition."
The workshop will also feature a brief update on the industry campaign to protect duty-free tobacco sales.
The workshop will take place at the Palais des Festivals, Auditorium A, on Wednesday October 25, starting at 10am. It is open to all exhibition delegates.
