Duty-paid retail commences at Bucharest

Four duty-paid retailers opened at Bucharest Otopeni International airport last week, with tenders for another six outlets, selling duty-paid electronics, confectionery, cosmetics and fragrances, to be held in the second half of February

The four Romanian retailers, Romatex, Graftex Prodcom, General Business System and Sodo Migiori Romania will run the gifts, fashion and souvenirs, toys and stationery and jewellery and watches concessions respectively, following the Romanian government's decision to abolish airport duty-free in the country late last year.

Though airside, the shops will only be permitted to sell duty-paid goods after the Romanian government controversially decided to ban airport duty-free in September (DFNI September 15). All four winning companies are Romanian.
