Duty-free tops UK airport spending survey

UK passengers spend an average of about $48 on duty-free, with their total spend at airports reaching over $210, according to Morgan Stanley research
UK passengers spend more on duty-free than any other airport expense, according to a new survey commissioned by Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking. The representative sample of 1,000 people revealed that British travellers spend an average of almost £120 ($212.44) at the airport before boarding their plane, with an average spend of £27 ($47.79) on duty-free items.Passengers in their twenties spend the most, averaging £52 ($92.04), while those over 50 spend just £17 ($30.09) on average. Men spend more than women, the survey found, spending an average of £31 ($54.87) compared with £23 ($40.77).
The survey also noted a regional variance within the UK, with Londoners spending the most at airports, £163.79 ($289.92), of which £52 is spent on duty-free. Passengers from Yorkshire and Humberside spend the least at airports, on average £62.70 ($110.98).
Other significant airport expenses included currency exchange, car park charges and food.
