The Duty Free World Council (DFWC) is to explore the possibility of becoming a non-government organisation, it was decided during a meeting at last month's TFWA World Exhibition. The association discussed a draft charter outlining its objectives and operations, and Frank O'Connell is now co-ordinating responses before presenting a final document being to members for approval in January.
At the meeting DFWC also agreed to develop further the new website, www.dfworldcouncil.com, and adopted a new logo.
The Council will prepare a formal response to the Trinity Forum 'white paper' debate on behalf of all its constituent members and decided formally to endorse the Trinity Forum, organised by TFWA and Moodie International to be held in September 2005.
DFWC will hold sessions at each of the major trade exhibitions, with the next session taking place at the IAADFS' Duty Free Show of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale in April next year.
The Council agreed to work on a regional representational basis, with Alberto Motta representing the Americas, Mohamed Mounib for the Middle East, Frank O'Connell representing Europe, Erik Juul-Mortensen representing TFWA and Christian Strang the Far East and Asia until the new Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association elects its President.
